Uncle Hal and the War to End All Wars – North Branch

Abraham Lincoln historian and author Guy Fraker returns with a program honoring the 100th anniversary of the Armistice on November 11, 1918.  He tells the somewhat forgotten saga of World War I and the terrifying and horrific conditions the troops suffered in that brutal conflict. The focus is on the American troops, "the Doughboys" and the idealism with which they went off to fight "over there." It recounts the experience of one soldier, his uncle Harry G. Holliday, who grew up on a farm in Chillicothe and spent his adult life in Peoria. He volunteered, experienced the worst of the war, came home damaged, and never recovered. His story epitomizes the patriotism, courage, and sacrifice of so many.
