Answer: If you live within Peoria city limits, you can apply for a library card either online or in person. Library cards are offered freely to every Peoria resident, beginning at birth.
An online card will only grant you temporary access to our digital library. Apply here.

For full access to our collection, apply for a standard library card in person at any Peoria Public Library location.
• You must live within Peoria city limits and show a photo ID as well as something showing proof of residence. For example, a piece of mail addressed to you or a bill.
• For children (birth to 8th grade), parents or guardians must accompany them, show a photo ID and verify the child also lives in Peoria.

Your Peoria Public Library card is valid for two years, and must be renewed in person.
There is a $2 replacement fee for lost library cards.

Enter a subject, keyword, title or author in the search bar on the front page of our website to search our online library catalog.

In addition to searching Peoria Public Library’s collection, our online catalog also searches every area library within our consortium, including dozens of libraries across northern and west central Illinois.

To the right of your results, you will see a “Show Details” button, this will allow you to see what libraries have the material, as well as in what format and whether it is available.

You will need your library card number (nine-digit number starting with D; located on the back of your card) and your specific PIN to reserve materials online.

There has always been a slight delay between when you return materials to us and when we check them in so they are removed from your account.

That delay grew during the COVID-19 pandemic as materials are set aside – quarantined – for several days to protect our staff from any chance of coming into contact with the virus. Delays during COVID have been compounded with transport between libraries, as well.

Still, feel free to reach out to us by calling the branch you returned your materials to. We will be happy to check your account.

Click on “My Account” at the top of our webpage and then the “Forgot My PIN” link. Enter your library card number and we will email you a link to reset your PIN to the email address we have on file.

If you didn’t provide us with an email address or that has since changed, call us at 309-497-2000 anytime during operating hours and we can reset your PIN manually.

Most of Peoria Public Library’s databases can be accessed remotely with your library card number, but some do require a specific authorization code and password.

If you need a code and password, call 309-497-2000 during operating hours.

On Sept. 8, 2020 – International Literacy Day – Peoria Public Library went fine free, joining a growing number of libraries nationwide committed to removing barriers to access.

Patrons will no longer be charged for returning items past the due date, and past overdue fines have been forgiven.

Peoria Public Library’s administration and board believe access to the library’s multimillion-dollar collection is the most important thing.

How does this work?
Items checked out from Peoria Public Library will continue to have a two-week loan period and can be renewed for two more weeks up to three times or for a total of eight weeks.

Patrons who have signed up for email or text alerts will be notified with a reminder three days before items are due.

However, if items are NOT renewed, patrons will continue to receive successive overdue notices.
• First notice when items are five days overdue
• Second notice when items are ten days overdue
• A bill when items are two weeks overdue
• After two additional weeks, if the cardholder has checked out items with a total value of $50 or more, the account is sent to our collections agency. If items are returned at this point, any late fees will be waived, but the cardholder is still responsible for administrative fees for initiating the collection process, a minimum of $10.

Online: Click on Reserve A Room. You will see a full listing of every space available across our five locations.
You will need to create your own free “Spaces” account to make online reservation requests, but this is a good way to keep track of your requests or make requests after hours. You will receive an email confirmation once your request has been approved. You can also cancel your request via your “Spaces” account. This is the fastest and easiest method to manage your reservations unless you are making a SAME-DAY reservation. In that case, call the library directly.

Email: Email your reservation request to PPLRooms@ppl.peoria.lib.il.us You will need to fill out a PDF form for our records. We can email this to you or you can download it from our website.
Please include all pertinent details, including day, time and location for reservation.

Phone: Our staff requests that you try to make your room reservations either online or via email. However, if you need to, you can call our Programming Department at (309) 497-2143 or 497-2150.

NOTE: If you need to make a same-day reservation, call the library where you plan to meet directly.

Cancelling a Reservation
Peoria Public Library doesn’t charge for meeting space use, but we do charge for special room setups.

Users are responsible for notifying the Library of cancellations. Cancellations must be called into the Programming Department. If a cancellation occurs on the day of the meeting and extensive room setups have already been completed, the Library will not refund the set-up fee.

If you made your reservation online, you can easily cancel your request via your “Spaces” account or by phone or email – pplrooms@ppl.peoria.lib.il.us or (309) 497-2143 or 497-2150.
